Pizza Readings

A free monthly play reading series where we gather 'round the virtual campfire (Zoom) to read plays aloud for fun!

Anyone and everyone are welcome -- there's just one rule: everyone must read a part!

The plays selected are published comedies, mysteries, and adventures with large casts so everyone can play a part. The purpose of these readings is simply to gather with fellow actors/ artists/ theatre-enthusiasts, eat (BYO) pizza, and enjoy great works of dramatic literature. No preparation necessary!

Pizza Readings occur on the third Wednesday of each month, at 6pm Eastern.

To participate, RSVP by the Monday prior, and you will receive the script, roles, and Zoom info on Tuesday.

Pizza Reading Origins

The "pizza reading" stems from a theatre world custom of gathering actors around a few pizza pies and reading a play for fun. This allows actors to try on roles they wouldn't traditionally be cast in, and allows directors and playwrights to hear a script aloud.

After such a reading of Thomas Middleton's THE WITCH in the fall of 2019 (which eventually led to our inaugural production in 2021), CQ founder Megan Nussle got the idea to continue the readings simply for FUN's sake. In January 2020, we met in-person in Provincetown, MA, to read Shakespeare's seasonally-appropriate TWELFTH NIGHT. Then when the pandemic hit, we shifted online.

With theatres closed, everyone indoors, and folks seeking connection, the Pizza Readings expanded to include Readers from across the states, countries, and oceans. We've remained online since, and new Readers are always welcome!
